In this article, we profile the 25 best online bachelor’s in engineering, engineering technology, and related degree programs at some of the top-ranked colleges and universities for 2016.

Engineering fields pay good money, offer opportunities for advancement, and provide a professional working environment. The demand for highly skilled engineers has been on the rise for decades, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Colleges and universities are providing online options for students who want to major in engineering but have a difficult time balancing life or work obligations with traditional schooling. This shift in online learning means that even some of the top-ranked institutions are now offering online options.

Methodology

Our initial pool included 85 colleges and universities that offered online bachelor’s degrees in engineering, engineering technology, applied science (with engineering classes), and specialized engineering programs like fire science or software engineering. We then narrowed the pool to those schools ranked by major publications like Forbes magazine and U.S. News and World Report and noted regional, national, and program recognition. We then chose the 25 most affordable of these recognized schools based on NCES College Navigator’s published undergraduate tuition. We listed the institutions in order of affordability, with our #1 school being the most affordable.

Below are the resulting selections for our top 25 best online bachelor’s in engineering degree programs.
