In this article, we profile the top 30 affordable online bachelor’s in psychology degree programs for 2017 at some of the nation’s top-ranked institutions.

According to Psychology Today and The American Psychological Association, over 40% of bachelor’s-level psychologists work in non-profit business jobs, while 20-30% work in educational institutions. And, interestingly, only 25% of all psychology majors actually work within the field of psychology. This means that the psychology degree is quite versatile, no matter what career goals you have. The United States Department of Labor–Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the job outlook for psychologists is projected to increase by 19% until the year 2024.

Methodology

We reviewed 176 accredited colleges and universities listed by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES College Navigator) that offered online bachelor’s in psychology degree programs. From our list of schools, we reviewed rankings received from major publications like Forbes magazine, The Princeton Review, and U.S. News and World Report. We chose regionally and nationally ranked schools, or institutions with online bachelor’s program rankings from at least one major publication. We then listed the 30 most affordable of these recognized schools, with the #1 spot going to the most affordable.

Below are the resulting selections for our top 30 affordable online bachelor’s degrees in psychology for 2017.

Fort Hays State University’s online psychology bachelor’s degree can be completed as a BA or BS and with only slight differences in the coursework. The BA in psychology degree requires the completion of ten foreign language credits, while the BS degree requires 20 hours of work in natural sciences and/or mathematics. The psychology program is delivered entirely online through the university’s Virtual College. Courses include abnormal psychology, child and developmental psychology, introduction to cognitive psychology, and social psychology. A total of 42 credit hours are required for the major (124 credit hours for the degree). Fort Hays is recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top regional university in the Midwest.
