Chaminade University of Honolulu appears in our ranking of the 30 Best Online Bachelor’s in English Degrees. The business administration program is available in Honolulu and online. Students develop a good background in business. The forensic science program prepares students to examine and gather evidence. They also learn to   process and present their evidence. All six of the university’s graduate programs include online tracks for students. The Chaminade University of Honolulu also offers a graduate program in criminal justice administration. It includes a general track and tracks in:

There is also the early education program that focuses on Montessori teaching methods. About the Chaminade University of Honolulu

The Chaminade University of Honolulu is a private university in Hawaii . It’s affiliated with the Marianist order of the Roman Catholic Church. Father William Joseph Chaminade founded the Society of Mary. Eight priests from the order moved to Honolulu in 1883 and started the Saint Louis School. The school’s success led to them opening the St. Louis Junior College in 1955. It became Chaminade College in 1957 and the Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1977. The Chaminade University of Honolulu maintains its affiliation with the Society of Mary. That affiliation shaped the goals and traditions still held by the university. This includes the commitment that it has to Catholic beliefs and the fact that it shapes the religious and educational beliefs of its student body. One of the main requirements for on-campus residents includes service-learning projects. Students can choose from dozens of projects offered each year in Honolulu and on other islands.

Chaminade University of Honolulu Accreditation Details

Chaminade has regional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) through the Senior College and University Commission (SCUC) of that organization. It also holds accreditation from:

  • the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education Commission on Accreditation

Chaminade University of Honolulu Application Requirements

The university encourages prospective students to attend an on-campus information session. They learn why current students refer to the campus as home and their peers as family. Students have the option of viewing an online campus tour, too. The requirements for undergraduate admission include a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. They need a minimum score of 1000 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT. Chaminade accepts the Common Application and the Chaminade Application. Students can access and submit both applications starting at the beginning of September. Those applying to the School of Nursing must have the following:
  • Grades of C- or higher in biology, chemistry and algebra classes
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement of at least 250 words
These programs have an application deadline of February first. The university recommends that future graduate students contact the department in charge of their programs and check on the application requirements. They typically need official transcripts from any colleges they attended. They need  completed application packets as well as their application fees. The university may ask for letters of recommendation, test scores or writing samples also.

Tuition and Financial Aid

At Chaminade, new undergrads pay $26,134 for traditional enrollment in terms of tuition and fees. They pay at least $11,000 a year for room and board. Students in the School of Nursing pay $32,314 each year in tuition and fees. The cost for online undergrads is $550 per credit hour for most students. Those on active duty status pay $250 per credit hour. All other military students pay $420 per credit hour. Online students also pay a technology fee of $93 for each course they take. Graduate students pay the same fee and a tuition rate of $825 to $1,035 per credit hour. The Chaminade University of Honolulu encourages students to look for financial aid and to plan before they enroll in their classes. All students can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). More more than 80 percent of the university’s students receive one or more types of financial aid. Their packages can include:
  • grants
  • scholarships
  • other awards from Chaminade
  • grants and loans that come from the government
The federal government offers both subsidized and unsubsidized loans as well as PLUS loans for students and their parents. Some students may qualify for work-study also. Every student attending the Chaminade University of Honolulu can get financial aid.
