How long does it take to earn a bachelor’s in Spanish online degree?

The typical on-campus bachelor’s degree takes four years to complete. This is true of any discipline, including Spanish. But to cut the time spent in the classroom, students often choose online instruction. Thanks to advances in online education technology, options abound. In fact, many online Spanish degree programs allow students to work at their own pace and graduate with their bachelor’s degree in under four years. Online Spanish programs are available from accredited, top-ranked institutions.

There are factors that impact time to completion of your degree. Once you’ve decided to pursue a bachelor’s in Spanish online, you should then select your enrollment status. Enrollment status should be examined from two perspectives – the time you want to spend taking classes and the time you have available to dedicate to your studies. Part-time and full-time enrollment options both offer benefits, but one of the two may not fit your needs.

Full-time enrollment means you will take more classes at one time. If you work or carry outside obligations that impact the time you have to dedicate to your studies, full-time enrollment may not be an option. Part-time enrollment provides more flexibility than carrying a full-time course load. However, the downside to part-time enrollment is that it will take longer to earn your degree.

Some programs offer fast-track completion options and others accept transfer credits. Both can shorten the time spent earning your degree, even when enrolling part-time.

What are the admission requirements for bachelor’s in Spanish online programs?

Admission requirements for bachelor’s in Spanish online degrees vary by program and institution. Top-tier schools with low acceptance rates are more difficult to get into. These schools require competitive GPAs and high SAT or ACT scores. However, most of the online bachelor’s in Spanish programs on our list have similar admission standards.

The first consideration for admission by schools and programs is careful examination of your high school GPA. State universities often require a minimum GPA of 2.50. Competitive institutions may require a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to GPA requirements, competencies must also be met. This means admissions committees will likely review the classes you took in high school or homeschool to determine that standards have been met. Typical standards include four years of math, four years of English, three years of lab science, two years of social science, and one year of fine arts. In addition to these classes, most schools require at least two years of a foreign language. However, if you plan to major in Spanish, you will likely have taken three to four years of foreign language in high school.

Other considerations for admission include SAT or ACT scores, percentage or ranking in high school graduating class, and essays on your college application.
