About Drury University

Drury University is a small private university in Missouri. It offers degree programs for both undergrads and graduate students as well as some online programs. It was established in 1873 as Springfield College. It initially offered education and religious programs and a few music options. To honor the man who donated a large sum of money, the college was renamed Drury College. The school did not become a full university until 2000. Though affiliated with one church during its early years, the university later  affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). That affiliation still exists today. U.S. News and World Report included Drury on its lists of Great Schools at Great Prices for several years. Other organizations and publications also rank the university as a good value school. Princeton Review named it one of the greenest college campuses in the nation. The university appears on lists of the best colleges in the Midwest also. More than 40% of its undergrads sign up for a study abroad program. These programs allow students to spend up to a full year studying overseas. Drury University now has a large campus that covers more than 40 acres and an enrollment of more than 5,400 students.

Drury University Accreditation Details

The accreditation that Drury University has is important for a few reasons. It allows students to get financial aid and transfer credits to or from the university. It also lets them know that their degree programs will prepare them for their future goals. Drury’s regional accreditation covers all its degree programs. It’s accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). Its specialty accreditation covers some of its specific degree programs, including programs in:
  • education: National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE),
  • music: National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)
  • business: Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Drury University Application Requirements

Drury has just four application requirements for incoming freshmen. Those students must complete the university’s application online. They can use the university’s own application or the Common Application.  They will then submit their high school transcripts. This must show that the student already has a high school diploma or made satisfactory progress towards a degree. The university asks for an official SAT or ACT score and an essay. This essay must explain a significant moment that occurred in the student’s life. The university offers three other forms that students may need to complete. One is a veteran certification form. This lets the school verify that a student served in the military. This makes it easy for the university to determine which financial aid options are best for that student. It also offers a transfer form for those who attended another college or university. Students planning to live on the Drury campus must fill out a residence form. The university will use this to assign the student to a dormitory. Prospective grad students will follow some of the same steps, including filling out the online application and supplying their official transcripts. There is a $25 application fee due. They will fill out an online form and submit contact information for two references the university can contact. Students should also write a goals statement. Certain graduate programs may ask for other information, too. Students may need to show that they took prerequisite courses and/or that they maintained a higher grade point average.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Drury requires that incoming students put down a $100 deposit after receiving an acceptance letter. Full-time undergrads will then pay $13,675 per year. This lets them take up to 17 credits each semester. Part-time students pay $920 per credit hour. Graduate programs all charge different rates. Students in the education program will pay $359 per credit hour. The MBA students will pay $699 per credit hour. The university charges various fees as well. Any student who needs financial aid can submit the FAFSA and use the Drury school code on that form. The aid awarded will depend on the student’s enrollment status and whether they are an undergrad or graduate student. Graduate students generally only qualify for PLUS or unsubsidized student loans. They may receive some grants, too. Undergrads can work for the university and take out student loans as well as receive different types of grants. Drury University encourages students to look at some of the available scholarships, too.
