About Langston University

Langston University originated in 1897.  The Oklahoma Legislature passed Bill 151 to use Morrill Land-Grant funds. It created the Colored Agricultural & Normal University. By 1915, the permanent campus was built in Central Oklahoma. In 1941, the Langston University name was adopted to honor US Congressman John Mercer Langston. Six years later, famed Harlem Renaissance poet Melvin B. Tolson joined LU’s faculty. In 1948, Langston joined the Association of American Colleges. In 1960, President William Henri Hale established a 10-year integration plan to admit the first white students. In 1974, the Five College Curriculum Innovative Thrust Program was launched. In 1979, the Oklahoma City Center was opened for upper-division learning. In 2000, the Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling became Langston’s first graduate degree. Langston University is endowed for $44.2 million. It employs 147 faculty teaching 1,945 undergrad and 174 post-grad students from 30 nations. It has over 45 clubs like Distinguished Black Women. In 2016, Langston had an HBCU All-Star Award finalist. In 2018, LU received the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities Excellence in Teaching Award. The U.S. News & World Report named Langston the 57th best historically Black college and 113th top social mobility performer. On Niche, LU isAmerica’s 95th best Greek life and 264th most liberal academics. It’s ranked Oklahoma’s fifth best value by PayScale. College Factual ranked Langston:

Langston University Application Requirements

Getting into Langston University is classified as “moderately difficult” with a 61 percent acceptance rate. First-year students must complete at least 15 units of college-prep high school academics or the GED. Prerequisites are:

• four English units
• three science units
• three math units

Freshmen need cumulative GPAs of 2.7 or better. Composite 20 ACT and 940 SAT or higher scores are mandatory. Deficient scores might be permitted with at least 12.0 Nelson-Denny Reading Test scores. The Honors Program requires a minimum 3.5 GPA and 22 ACT or equivalent mark. Transfers who’ve passed 24+ college credits with C or greater grades are welcome. Foreign undergrads must pass the 500 TOEFL or 6.0 IELTS score minimum. The Graduate Admissions Office requires cumulative GPAs above 2.5 during the four-year bachelor’s completion. Satisfactory GRE scores in the top 50th percentile are also necessary. Langston University runs a rolling admission process year-round until August 9th for Fall or January 3rd for Spring. International deadlines are July 15th and November 15th. The eight-week term starts are August 12th, October 7th, January 21st, March 23rd, and June 3rd. It’s recommended that students apply 2-3 weeks before sessions begin. The Doctor of Physical Therapy uniquely has a firm January 15th deadline. Accordingly, complete the Langston or PTCAS Application online for free ($50-$75 if graduate). Forward official transcripts to PO Box 667 in Langston, OK 73050. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, Langston University charges in-state undergrads $5,950 annually. Non-resident tuition is $13,300 per year. Urban Campus enrollment prices are $6,550 and $13,900. Distance learning courses incur $88 extra per credit. Living at on-campus residences like adds $7,322 to $9,476 for yearly room and board. LU budgets:
