About Youngstown State University

Youngstown State University was established in 1908. The Youngstown Young Men’s Christian Association started teaching night law classes. In 1916, the center was incorporated as the Youngstown Association School. Five years later, it became the Youngstown Institute of Technology. In 1930, Youngstown awarded the earliest four-year Bachelor of Arts degrees. In 1931, Jones Hall became the first official building on its Wick Avenue campus. In 1944, Youngstown earned initial accreditation from the North Central Association and broke ties with the YMCA. In 1955, Youngstown University was born and launched master’s degrees. Twelve years after, the Youngstown State University name was adopted. In 1976, YSU erected William F. Maag Jr. Library. In 1993, Youngstown State went digital with the OhioLINK Consortium. In 2007, YSU become one of 14 University System of Ohio members. Budgeting $183.96 million for 2020, Youngstown State University now employs 409 full-time and 562 part-time faculty. Youngstown State University Application Requirements

Admission at Youngstown State University is classified as “selective” by the U.S. News & World Report. Only 67.8 percent of the 9,243 Fall 2018 applicants were accepted. Freshman must finish a qualifying curriculum in Grades 9-12 or pass the GED test. Only the College Credit Plus program is offered to current high school students. First-year applicants must achieve a 2.0 unweighted secondary GPA or better. The State of Ohio College Readiness Benchmark requires minimum ACT scores of:

The Bitonte College guarantees admission to Entry-Level BSN students with 3.4 GPAs and 1190 combined SAT scores or higher. Transfers with 12+ credits must be in good academic standing at accredited colleges with GPAs over 2.0. International students need at scores of at least:

500 TOEFL pBT

The Graduate School requires a minimum 2.70 GPA during the bachelor’s preparation. Certain programs, such as the Master of Business Administration, demand a 300 GRE or 460 GMAT score. Youngstown State University set final undergraduate deadlines of:

Non-U.S. residents should file before November 15th or June 15th. Priority graduate deadlines are October 1st and April 15th. However, the Graduate School has many program-specific dates.
