About Adelphi University

Adelphi University originated in 1863.  Adelphi Academy opened in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene district for nonsectarian college prep courses in grades 9-12. In 1893, Dr. Charles Herbert Levermore added university-level liberal arts education. It was chartered by New York State in June 1896. Adelphi College started its inaugural bachelor’s class of 57 that September. In 1912, President James H. Post approved the Board’s decision to only enroll women. In 1925, Adelphi College completely broke away from the Academy. Four years later, Adelphi recruited McKim, Mead & White architects to design its new Long Island property. In 1938, Ruth St. Denis founded the Department of Performing Art’s Dance B.F.A. In 1943, the College of Nursing & Public Health debuted to aid WWII efforts. It became coeducational again in 1946. Adelphi obtained university status in 1963. In 1966, the Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies launched the earliest doctorate. In 1995, the Honors College was added in Earle Hall. On November 20, 2014, Adelphi University satisfactorily submitted the Fifth-Year Periodic Review Report to the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Higher Education Dr. Christine Riordan earned the ACIT Monsignor Hartman Humanitarian Award. Adelphi is located 116 miles down Interstate 95 in Philadelphia. This significant six-state Northeast Region accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and New York State Education Department (NYSED). Adelphi University Application Requirements

Admission at Adelphi University is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because. Just 9,649 of the 13,006 Fall 2017 applicants were selected. This made a 74 percent acceptance. First-year students must provide evidence of a qualifying high school diploma or GED equivalent. Completing at least 16 college-prep units, including four in Language Arts, is suggested. Most freshmen rank in the upper decile with an average 3.5 cumulative GPA. Mid-range SAT scores are currently 500-600 for Reading and 510-610 for Math. The middle 50th percentile present ACT scores of 22-27. Transfers are test-optional for undergrads with 30+ credits and college GPAs above 2.0. The Graduate School only seeks students holding regionally accredited bachelor’s degrees or higher. Earning mostly As and Bs for a minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred. The Direct Master’s Accelerator Program requires a GPA over 3.5. College of Education options, such as the Childhood Special Education M.S., require NYS teacher certification. All M.S.N. tracks from Administration to Gerontology require active RN licensure. Adelphi University has freshman deadlines of December 1st for Early Action and March 1st for Regular Decision. Priority transfer dates are June 1st for Fall and November 1st for Spring. The Graduate School has wide-ranging requirements based on program type. For instance, the Social Work Ph.D. closes on April 15th each year. Mental Health Counseling M.A. cohorts are considered until March 1st. The School Psychology Psy.D. has a December 1st due date. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Adelphi University charged traditional full-time undergrads $18,460 each semester or $36,920 annually. Upper-division B.S.W. and B.S.N. students paid $37,160 yearly. Bachelor’s tuition required a $745 university/technology fee and $125 activity fee. Studying part-time incurred $1,125 per credit. Residing at the Garden City campus’ dorms added $4,315 to $6,165 for housing each term. Premium meal plans for PACafé were $2,860. Adelphi budgeted $1,020 for books and $3,000 for indirect expenses. Annual undergrad attendance equaled $58,430 on-site or $45,840 if commuting. Online A.S./B.S. courses were $690 per credit. The Graduate School generally billed $1,260 per credit. One exception was the Exercise Science M.S., costing $1,320 per credit. Healthcare Informatics M.S. cohorts paid $950 per credit online. The Clinical Psychology Ph.D. had flat-rate $47,800 yearly tuition.
