About Fayetteville State University

Fayetteville State University was founded shortly after the Civil War in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The university is a historically black public regional university. It was founded after two local schools in the African-American community were consolidated into one school called the Howard School. The university  was the first state-sponsored institution of higher learning for African-American teachers in the South. The university’s campus covers 200 acres. Its official colors are white and blue. Athletics are played in NCAA Division II games. The university is part of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Students play as the Broncos. The university is also supported by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. This is a non-profit group that supports historically black colleges and universities.

Regional accreditation for Fayetteville State University comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The group is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Regional accreditation is required for students who:

Fayetteville State University Application Requirements

Applications for first-time freshmen at Fayetteville State University must include:

Students aren’t required to submit letters of recommendation. However, they may do so if their scores and class rank are lower than average. Minimum requirements for admission include having a 2.5 or higher GPA for the final high school transcript and obtaining a 17 or higher score on the ACT or an 880 or higher score on the SAT. Out-of-state students are required to have a slightly higher standardized test score with a 910 or higher on the SAT. Students should also complete minimum course requirements that include classes in English, math, and science.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for in-state undergraduate students at Fayetteville State University is $8,381.00 per year. Out-of-state students pay $19,989.00 per year. The university offers different rates for its various dormitories and meal plans. Tuition paid by graduate students from North Carolina is $8.836.98 per year. The rate is $19,902.38 for non-residents. Other fees that students may pay include:
