Granite State College Degree Programs

Granite State College appears in our ranking of the 30 Best Online Bachelor’s in English Degrees. Granite State College offers a variety of degrees, including bachelor’s, master’s, and associate’s degrees. Teacher certification programs are also available. Many of the courses are taught at the New Hampshire campus, but students can find online options. Granite State College also offers flexibility with its course delivery. Face-to-face classes are the traditional on-campus option. However, online, blended, and hybrid courses are also available. The bachelor’s degrees are available at the campus and can include accounting/finance, digital media, health care management, history, marketing, social studies, and more. Students can find 21 different programs. They can also earn a bachelor’s degree with teacher certification. Granite State College also offers master’s degrees. The programs are built around the ever-evolving business environment and focus on leading industries, such as business and healthcare. The graduate programs available here are 100 percent online, so it is easier for students to work toward a degree while working full-time. Business master’s degrees include management, leadership, and project management. Students can also find healthcare master’s degrees in nursing and healthcare management. An education master’s degree is also available in instruction and leadership. Those who would like to get started in their career sooner may want to consider an Associate’s degree. It usually takes less time to complete than a bachelor or master’s degree, which means students can get into their chosen field sooner. Associate degrees can include business, behavioral science, early childhood education, and more. Once the associate degree is earned, students have the option of continuing their education with a bachelor’s degree. Granite State College also offers PBTC programs for those who have completed their bachelor’s degree and want to seek teaching certification in New Hampshire. The Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification focuses on shortage areas in the state. Additional certifications are available for teachers who are already certified. Students can enroll in certification programs if they reside outside the New Hampshire area. However, they must ensure that the program meets licensure requirements in their state. Initial certifications can include deaf/hearing disabilities, blind/vision disabilities, general special education, and mathematics for Grades 5 through 8. Additional certifications for certified teachers can consist of elementary education, reading and writing, and education technology integrator, among others.

Granite State College was founded in 1972 with the goal of giving everyone access to a college education, regardless of age, income, and location. In the beginning, the college focused on weekend and evening classes to meet the schedules of those who worked full-time jobs. It’s steadily built on that foundation to offer online courses with flexible deliveries. Of course, in-person and virtual support is available so that students have the guidance they need. The college focuses on providing a wide range of degree choices, as well as post-baccalaureate options for teachers. It also offers transfer opportunities and credit for prior learning. Primarily, Granite State College emphasizes those areas of study that employers require now. That way, people can learn about an industry where they will be needed immediately.

Granite State College Accreditation Details

Granite State College is regionally accredited through the NECHE (New England Commission of Higher Education). NECHE used to be recognized as the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education through the New England Association of Schools/Colleges, Inc. It is one of just six regional accreditors that is recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation and the US Secretary of Education. Accreditation means that the college has met or exceeds criteria for institutional quality, which is granted on a peer-review process. Some programs have individual accreditation, as well. For example, the baccalaureate and master’s nursing degree program is also accredited by the CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education). The master’s in project management is accredited by the PMI GAC (PMI Global Accreditation Center). Education programs are accredited through TEAC (Teacher Education Accreditation Council) through December of 2023.

Granite State College Application Requirements

Regardless of the degree, applicants need to have a GED, high school diploma or homeschool equivalent. Those who’d like to apply can do so for free online. However, it is recommended that people talk to an advisor first to help with registration and course planning. Applicants must then request their transcripts from high school and other colleges. Then, they can apply for financial aid and pay tuition about 1.5 weeks before the term starts. Those who want to apply for a graduate degree can also fill out a free online application. They need to have a Bachelor’s degree, official transcripts of college work, and a statement showcasing professional aspirations/goals. A resume and professional/academic references are also required. Applicants who want to apply for a baccalaureate degree have similar requirements as a graduate degree. However, they must also pass the PRAXIS CORE test or be willing to take and pass the test before taking EDU 700.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Once the student is granted admission to Granite State College, they must consider tuition costs and how they will pay for them. Tuition rates for the 2019-2020 year are $314 per credit for post-baccalaureate, undergraduate, and independent learning contract. Graduate rates are $538 per credit. Non-residents can expect to pay $365 for undergraduate, independent learning contracts, and post-baccalaureate degrees. Graduate degrees cost $590 per credit. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Options can include federal/state grants, scholarships/grants, student loans, and federal work-study opportunities. Students who wish to consider financial aid must fill out a FAFSA application online.
