1. Division 53 Student Achievement Award

One of the goals of the American Psychology Association (APA) is to assist in the growth of America’s next generation of psychologists. Among the many scholarships they offer is the Division 53 Student Achievement Award. This award focuses on the area of child and adolescent psychology. To apply, all students have to do is demonstrate high academic achievement and a commitment to child and adolescent psychology. They do this by completing work such as:
  • projects
  • internships
  • research papers
Applicants must also join Division 53 of the APA (The Society of Child and Adolescent Psychology). Membership is free for students. Division 53 offers many educational and career advancement opportunities. Awards total $1000 annually.

2. AP-LS Award for Best Undergraduate Paper

Interested in the relationship between psychology and law? You are invited to apply for Division 41 of the APA, American Psychology-Law Society’s (AP-LS) AP-LS Award for Best Undergraduate Paper. Eligible applicants are undergraduate students writing a research paper on any topic related to psychology and law. They may be overseen by a mentor but must be the primary author of the paper. Participating in the research process as an undergraduate is one of the best ways to build a good resumé for graduate school and job applications.  Submitting a research paper  for this scholarship could result in:
  • $500 for first place
  • $300 for second place
  • $150 for third place

3. Kay Wilson Presidential Leadership Award

Joining the Psi-Chi national honors society in psychology is another great addition to the resumé of a future psychologist. Becoming the president of a college chapter shows even more initiative. It could also earn students the Kay Wilson Presidential Leadership Award. Students must be nominated by someone else involved in their Psi-Chi chapters. The nomination must show that the recipient demonstrates outstanding leadership skills. It must show and a commitment to valuable contributions to the field of psychology. Annual awards total $1200.

4. Grawemeyer Award in Psychology

Innovative budding psychologists are invited to apply for the Grawemeyer Award in Psychology. This is one of the most generous psychology scholarships. It was designed to assist students who have developed an original idea that will promote progress in any subfield of psychology. The recipient must be nominated by any psychological professional. The idea must be presented in the form of a paper that explains the idea and its potential influence on the field of psychology. The annual award totals at least $100,000, to be presented at a special awards ceremony honoring the recipient.

5. American Addiction Centers Behavioral Health Academic Scholarship Program

Substance abuse and addiction are two of the current leading threats to mental health in America. American Addiction Centers (AAC) seeks to reward psychology students who:
  • commit a portion of their studies to helping people overcome addictions
  • preventing future individuals from becoming victims of addiction
The AAC offers three Behavioral Health Academic Scholarships per year. Eligible to apply are:
  • high school students entering college
  • undergraduate students
  • graduate students
First prize totals $5000, and second and third prizes total $2500 each. Paying for a college degree program is daunting. It no longer has to deter future psychologists from following their dreams.
