College of Coastal Georgia appears in our ranking of the 50 Most Affordable Online Degree Programs For In-State Students. The College of Coastal Georgia is a public, coed USG member in Brunswick.  It offers:

About the College of Coastal Georgia

The College of Coastal Georgia originated in 1961 when the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents allocated $1 million to open Brunswick College. In September 1964, President Earl F. Hargett welcomed the inaugural coed class. In 1965, it was renamed Brunswick Junior College for its pre-baccalaureate focus. The next year, the Office of Continuing Education was launched to educate adult students. In 1967, Brunswick Junior College was first regionally accredited. In 1972, the Georgia Board of Education selected it for pilot career technical programs. In 1986, it formed the Brunswick Center with two partners:

  • Georgia Southern University
In 1996, it became Coastal Georgia Community College. By 2008, the College of Coastal Georgia name was adopted. The College of Coastal Georgia is endowed for $8.8 million. It employs 107 full-time and 83 part-time faculty. Enrollment is 3,546 students. They study:

In 2011, CCGA received an American Concrete Institute First Place Award of Excellence. In 2018, Coastal Georgia accepted the GA Press General Excellence Award. The College of Coastal Georgia won the 2019 NAIA Arnold Palmer Individual Champion Award. The U.S. News & World Report named CCGA 166th for online bachelor’s degrees and 43rd for social mobility.  Niche named it America’s 204th best dorms and 321st top dining. College Factual picked Coastal Georgia 152nd for hospitality and 120th for liberal arts programs. Military Times ranked CCGA the 65th best for vets school.

College of Coastal Georgia Accreditation Details

The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).  This  11-state Southeast Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and Georgia Department of Education (GADOE). The Office of Institutional Effectiveness also lists the following specialized accreditations:

College of Coastal Georgia Application Requirements

Enrolling at the College of Coastal Georgia is classified as “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s. 1,494 of the 1,611 Fall 2018 applicants were accepted. This is a 93 percent acceptance. First-year students must complete a state-approved diploma or GED. Only the Dual Enrollment Program accepts high school students with at least 3.0 GPA, 1050 SAT, and 20 ACT marks. Degree-seeking freshmen need cumulative GPAs of 2.0 or better. The Accelerated Admissions Pathway mandates a 3.2 GPA. Minimum acceptable test scores are 14 on the ACT and 760 on the SAT. If taken, Accuplacer scores should be above 237 for reading and 258 for quantitative reasoning. International students frequently need a 6.0 IELTS, 69 TOEFL iBT, or higher score in English. Transfers must verify 30 semester or 45 quarter college-level credits with cumulative GPAs over 2.0. Certain online programs, such as the B.S. in Business Administration for Adult Learners, require 60+ credits. Online RN to BSN cohorts must have Georgia nursing licensure and an Associate of Science degree. The College of Coastal Georgia offers rolling admission until August 3rd for Fall, January 2nd for Spring It’s May 22nd for summer starts. The Dual Enrollment Program has August 5th, January 2nd, and May 24th deadlines for high schoolers. Priority transfer dates are June 15th, November 15th, and March 15th. February 1st and November 1st are the priority financial aid deadlines. Students complete the GAFutures Application online with a $25 non-refundable fee. Have official transcripts sent to One College Drive in Brunswick, GA 31520. Submit supplemental materials, such as:

  • certification of immunization form
  • RN license
  • passport or visa

Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, the College of Coastal Georgia charged in-state undergrads $106.80 per credit. Non-resident tuition is $394.53 per credit. Full-time semester costs are $1,281 for Georgians and $4,734 for non-residents. Mandatory student fees are $685 per term or $1,370 annually. Living at the Brunswick dorms  adds $2,600 to $3,900 for semester housing. Meal plans are $1,775 extra by term. CCGA budgets $1,750 for books and $5,224 for personal expenses. Yearly full-time attendance equals $21,706 in-state or $30,158 out-of-state. Commuters spend $11,670 to $20,122 per year. Note there’s a Presidential Out-of-State Waiver for freshmen in the top 25th percentile. According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office helps 84 percent of new full-time CCGA students enroll with median assistance of $5,390 each.  Institutional funds include:

The Hoven Opportunity Scholars Program gives $5,000 annually to first-generation, full-time students with minimum 2.5 GPAs. The $11,800 Catherine Gussman Endowed Scholarship supports Bachelor of Science in Nursing major. They must have 2.7 or greater GPAs and pursue pediatrics careers. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant and TEACH Grant, require separate applications coded 001558. Georgians can also pursue:
