Believe it or not, you don’t need a marketing degree to take advantage of SEO marketing strategies. SEO is the acronym for search engine optimization. It’s  gaining popularity as a marketing strategy that costs little to nothing to implement. Here are five tips for using search engine optimization. 1. Produce Regular Content

When people search for information, they usually want to be sure that it is fresh and up to date. By regularly posting or updating the website that is being promoted, it shows that the page is still current and active. The search engines prefer to have the most up to date material available to its users. If promoting a blog, be sure to revisit those articles and revise or update them just so that they’re more likely to show up at the top of the search results.

2. Don’t Forget About Metadata

Metadata is embedded in the html coding. It’s a way to directly communicate with search engines via SEO. When entering a description of a webpage, be sure to use at least 11 words but no more than 150 characters. If the website uses pictures, be sure to take advantage of giving the images relevant titles and descriptions. They will be considered by the search engine’s algorithm. Title tags for articles also have a huge impact on rankings. Be sure that any titles in the website are straightforward and descriptive.

3. Use Relevant Keywords

Keywords play a huge role in SEO marketing because they provide the most information about the topic. Keywords allow the search engines to calculate if a website is relevant to the user’s search requests. With that in mind, it’s important to consider the perspective of the target audience when entering in keywords. It’s also common for users to search four or more words at a time, so short phrases may also be useful. Using those keywords and phrases throughout the text in the website is a useful strategy that is fairly simple.

4. Consider the Bounce Rate

Bounce rate refers to how long a visitor stays on the page before they leave. When a visitor clicks away from a webpage too quickly, the search engine may think that the user did not find what they were looking for and decided to look elsewhere. When publishing content on a webpage, it may be useful to provide internal links to other pages within the website. A common way to do this is by including a link following a phrase similar to, “If you liked this, you may also like this.” If linked content is relevant, users may linger for a bit longer on the website.

5. Produce New Content Regularly

Let’s say a user searches for specific keywords and your website appears among several other links that are two years newer. The user may choose a newer link.  Both search engines and users want to access the most up to date websites. They want to be assured that the information is still relevant. Posting new material also shows that the website is still active and is more likely to increase rankings. Search engine optimization can be a lot to take in, but it gets easier with practice. If SEO marketing is too much for you, hire someone who has earned their marketing degree and understands all of the details. Sources:
